Juniors get a shot at the ITU Sprint Distance World Championship in Germany!
The Southwest Region will choose two junior boys and two junior girls at the Tri For Fun Sprint Triathlon on June 9th to compete at the ITU Sprint Distance World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, on September 2, 2007. Both the qualifying race and the world championships will be non-drafting, sprint distance races. Sprint Worlds will be held in conjunction with the ITU Olympic Distance Age Group World Championships on the same day. In order to qualify for Junior Team USA, athletes must finish 1st or 2nd at the Tri For Fun Sprint in Herald, California, on June 9, 2007. Athletes must be between 16 and 19 years old on December 31, 2007, to be eligible. Each region of USA Triathlon will nominate two boys and two girls for this event. Athletes are not required to compete in their region of residence for spots. Qualifying juniors will be responsible for all of their own travel costs and arrangements to/from Germany, as well as a Team USA fee. This championship should not be confused with the ITU Junior Elite World Championships, which is draft-legal. For more information please contact Sharon Osgood at tballntricoach@aol.com.
