The Southwest Region Triathlon Skills Camp is a five-day overnight camp for athletes 12 (13 by Dec 31, 2010) to 18 years old, held at California State University Monterey Bay, Seaside, California. The camp is the perfect place to enhance your triathlon skills under the supervision of an expert coaching staff. Participants will take part in daily swim, bike and run workouts. They will receive one-on-one sport-specific instruction, as well as lessons in goal setting, the art of balancing school sports and triathlon training, and race strategy for non-drafting and ITU-style (draft-legal) triathlon competition. Emphasis will be placed on developing correct bike handling skills and road safety, open water specific swim skills, correct running form, transition speed as well as many other related skills. Athletes will enjoy getting to know peers who share a similar interest and passion for the sport of triathlon. This camp is open to all levels of interested triathletes. Each athlete will be evaluated and placed in an appropriate age/experience group. Performance data collected at the camp will be shared with USA Triathlon and could result in invitations to participate in subsequent USAT national programs.

Each athlete will need to bring a road style bicycle. They should not have bar end TT type shifters. If you do not have a road bike available, we have a limited number of small entry level road bikes available to loan. These can be reserved by emailing Sharon Osgood at shozgood@gmail.com .We have 47cm, Felt bikes. Each athlete is required to be able to swim 200 yd in a pool comfortably, Cycle comfortably for 60 minutes, and be able to run for 15’ comfortably. Each athlete will need a wetsuit to swim in open water (ocean). A camp itinerary and necessary items for camp will be sent by email 2 weeks from the date of camp.

There are many opportunities in our region for each of you to participate in a regional development race or one of our regional youth or junior elite events.

Registration instructions:
The camps will take place at CSU Monterey Bay beginning at 12:00 PM (6/28 and 7/19) and ending at 3 PM(7/2 and 7/23). Sign in from 12-12:30 PM. No lunch will be served that day.

You will need to register by completing this Registration Application Form and Waiver and mail it with your registration fee, payable to Monterey Bay Multisport. Please mail all paperwork (including waiver) to Monterey Bay Multisport- Sharon Osgood, 26120 Zdan Rd, Carmel Valley, CA 93924. The camp is limited to the first 25 athletes registered. We will form a waiting list in the order the registration forms were received. The Camp director will have the final word on who will attend.

The complete registration fee is due together with your application to reserve your place in the camp. Any cancellations must be done by phoning camp director- Sharon Osgood at 831-659-5639.

Cancellation policy- $100 registration fee is non- refundable. full refund up to May 1st ( minus reg. fee), 50% refund May1-June 1(minus reg. fee) No refunds after June 1.

Sorry, we cannot roll-over your registration to 2011 if you have to cancel. Registration fee is per person, double occupancy and provides room and board, all coaching services, snacks and performance drinks, and goodie bag. Athletes must bring towels and bedding. Athletes may wish to bring some money for misc. personal expenses, including laundry.

Athletes are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the camp at CSU Monterey Bay if traveling by car. Shuttle pickup will be available from the Monterey Peninsula Airport to the camp if athletes need to fly in. Please state this on the application if you are planning to fly into Monterey.We will need to have a full itinerary in order to make plans for pick up and exit. If you plan to fly into the San Jose airport, we can suggest an independent shuttle service. Call the camp director ( 831-659-5639) for more information.

Space is limited to 25 athletes. A waiting list will be maintained in order of application received. The minimum age for participation in this camp is 12-(13 in 2010). The maximum age is 19 years old (in 2010).

USAT Junior Select Camp - West

July 5-9, 2010

The Southwest Region Junior Select Camp is a five-day overnight camp for athletes 15 to 19 years old, held at the U. S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. The camp is the perfect place to enhance your triathlon skills under the supervision of an expert coaching staff. Participants will take part in daily swim, bike and run workouts. They will receive one-on-one sport-specific instruction, as well as lessons in goal setting, sponsorship and public relations, the art of balancing school sports and triathlon training, and race strategy for non-drafting and ITU-style (draft-legal) triathlon competition. Emphasis will be placed on developing correct bike handling skills and road safety. Each athlete will perform protocol benchmark testing, based on the USAT Junior Performance Plan. Athletes will enjoy getting to know peers who share a similar interest and passion for the sport of triathlon. Junior Athletes who have shown a high level of excellence will be invited to attend by Regional Athlete Development Coordinators. Performance data collected at the camp will be shared with USA Triathlon and could result in invitations to participate in subsequent USAT national teams programs.

Junior Athletes (15-19 yrs of age) interested in attending the USAT Junior Select Camp - West should send a 1 page bio/ resume, including official times for a 500 pool swim, 5K stand alone run time and a short explanation why you would like to attend this camp, to Sharon deMaria Osgood at shozgood@gmail.com. Invitations will be sent out in January. The camp is limited to 12 athletes and is open to athletes from all regions of the U.S. as well as international athletes. International Athletes will be subject to a higher fee.



CEUs for Certified USAT Coaches!!

The USAT Skills camps in the Southwest region are accepting applications for coaches interested in gaining experience coaching youth and junior athletes. USAT will provide 7.5 CEU units to certified coaches attending the Skills camps at CSU Monterey Bay June 22-26 2009 and July 27-31 2009. Head Coaches for the camp will be, Alexis Waddel Smith ( Monterey Bay Multisport) and Phil Digirolomo ( Nor Cal Racing). Sharon deMaria Osgood ( Monterey Bay Multisport- USAT High Performance Squad) will be directing the camp. All interested coaches- please contact Sharon for more information at shozgood@gmail.com.
