The 3rd annual WCCTC / USAT Southwest Region Collegiate Triathlon Camp is the perfect place to enhance your triathlon skills under the supervision of an expert coaching staff. Participants will take part in daily swim, bike and run workouts and transition clinics. They will receive one-on-one sport specific instruction, as well as lessons in goal setting, the art of balancing school and triathlon training, nutrition (race day and daily) and race strategy for competition. The next Cat 5 certification clinic will be held in Dana Point, CA on Saturday, September 24, 2011 with the practicum taking place in conjunction with the Orangeman Triathlon on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

The Southwest region of USA Triathlon will once again be providing financial grants for the development of youth programing in our region. Leaders of youth programing are encouraged to present a proposal to the SW Regional Council for consideration.
The performance measures used to determine eligibility for grants are:
1. Grants must be used for educational programs, clinics and/or events;
2. Grants must be used to foster the development of new sanctioned youth events;
3. Grants must be used in conjunction with a youth club/team.

The 2011 USAT Southwest Region Aquabike Championship was contested at the Vineman Half-Aquabike in Santa Rosa,CA on Saturday July 30th. More than 200 athletes swam 1.2 miles in the Guerneville river and then tackled 56 miles of rolling terrain traversing scenic vineyards and farmland.
The overall male champion was Justin Jarvis (M25-29) who broke the tape in 2:44:06 with a swim split of 23:24 and a bike split of 2:19:07. Finishing in second was Mike Shaffer (M45-49) of Ventura, CA. Shaffer crossed the line in 2:52:03 with a stellar 22:39 swim and 2:27:35 bike. Rounding out the overall top three for men was Jason Braun (M35-39) who covered the course in 2:53:45 with a 26:33 and 2:25:16 swim and bike split respectively.&...

The 2011 USA Triathlon Youth and Junior Skills Camp (Southwest Region) finished up on July 2nd. In keeping with the current growth of youth members within USA Triathlon, the camp filled at 34 athletes. Held for the 5th year at CSU Monterey Bay, we enjoyed great training weather for our daily swim, bike and run workouts. National Camp Director and Southwest Region Athlete Development Coordinator, Sharon Osgood was assisted by an impressive list of Head Coaches. The coaches included: Phil Digirolomo, Alexis Waddel Smith, Alison Osgood, Ryan Riell, Kristi Johnson and Todd Larlee.
