The 30th annual Bakersfield Triathlon, Sept. 18th, 2010, is the USA Triathlon Southwest Region Club Championship. We welcome you to Bakersfield for a challenging, but fair event!

The reasons are numerous for you and your club members to come to Bakersfield.

Be a hero at USA Triathlon's Junior Triathlon Festival where athletes ages 7 – 19 will compete for a chance to be crowned a national champion. There are a number of opportunities and dates and times available for a variety of ages. The event is a lot of fun and it is great to watch the kids cross the finish line smiling. It is also really exciting watching the junior elites fly around the course. Without your support we wouldn't be able to have such a great event. Come out and be a hero today!

USA Triathlon's Junior Triathlon Festival Headed to San Diego
The nation's top young triathletes to compete in August

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The future of multisport will be on display in San Diego next month when the 2010 USA Triathlon Junior Triathlon Festival takes place on Aug. 14-15 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD). As of Tuesday, nearly 400 youth and junior triathletes have signed on to compete in 13 races over the course of two days. Continued…

Bakersfield Triathlon designated USAT-SW Region 2010 Club Championships
The USAT-SW Region Council has announced the selection of the Bakersfield Triathlon as the region’s 2010 Club Championships event. The Bakersfield Triathlon, established in 1981, offers athletes a 1.5k swim in Lake Ming, a challenging two lap 40k bike and hilly 10k run. Race day is September 18, 2010. Southwest Region Council Annual Meeting in Los Angeles
January 24, 2010

Members of the 2010 USAT Southwest Region Council descended on Los Angeles for a full day of meetings to discuss initiatives for the upcoming year. Returning council members in attendance included Kevin Trock, Sharon deMaria Osgood, Penni Bengtson and administrator Rachel Sears Casanta. Newly elected members in attendance included Scott Archibald, Courtenay Bravmann, Elizabeth Farnan, Todd German, Daniel Hart, Dave Mandelkern and Corey McKenna. Absent council members were Jim Girand, DeeAnn Smith and Shelly Lydon.

The following individuals were elected officers of the council:

Congratulations 2009 Garmin Athletes of the Year

USA Triathlon has announced the 2009 Garmin Age Group Athletes of the Year, an honor awarded annually by the USAT Age Group Commission and the USAT Duathlon Committee.

The Southwest Region congratulates and recognizes the following athletes from our region receiving honors:

USAT, TriFit Club and Studios Team Up to Bring Training Center to Southwest Region
USA Triathlon, November 20, 2009

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon has announced that TriFit Club and Studios in Santa Monica, Calif., is now a USAT Certified Training Center. TriFit Club and Studios offers USAT coaches, athletes and members access to a great training venue with state-of-the-art equipment, USAT certified coaches on staff and USOC quality testing.

The facility is located 20 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport and offers great bike riding and running routes right from the club. TriFit Club and Studios has onsite video analysis, Vo2 anLactate testing, sports massage, aquatics classes and bike fitting services. Members also have access to a registered dietician and physical therapy services.

"USA Triathlon is happy to add a Certified Training Center to the Southwest Region," said Linda Cleveland, USA Triathlon's coach development manager. "This is a great opportunity for USAT coaches and athletes in the area to train and take advantage of testing and other top notch services”

Juniors: Got Skills? Registration is now open for the USAT Skills Camp West and for the USAT Junior Select Camp. There are two USAT Skills Camps scheduled for June 28 - July 2 and July 19-23, 2010.

Registration is open for the 1st Annual USAT Southwest Region Collegiate Camp. The camp will be held on December 4 – 6, 2009 at Lake San Antonio, Calif.
